Bay St. George RCMP seize illicit drugs, cannabis, tobacco and liquor during traffic stop

Three people were arrested by Bay St. George RCMP during a traffic stop in Stephenville on Tuesday that also resulted in the seizure of drugs, drug paraphernalia, improperly stored cannabis, contraband tobacco and open liquor.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. on September 22, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a suspicious car stopped near Massachusetts Drive in Stephenville. Officers responded to the area and located the described vehicle.

When officers approached the vehicle, they observed contraband cigarettes and arrested three occupants inside the vehicle for possession of unstamped tobacco products. A search of the driver, passengers and vehicle also resulted in the location and seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, improperly stored cannabis products and open liquor.

The driver, a 41-year-old Port au Port woman, was charged under the Cannabis Control Act with having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis inside, where the cannabis is readily available to a person.

One passenger, a 35-year-old Port au Port East man, was ticketed under the provincial Liquor Control Act after being found in possession of open liquor.

Another passenger, a 34-year-old Cold Brook woman, was released without charge.
