A 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after police on patrol in Stephenville responded to a report of a disturbance in progress. Christopher Mooney has been charged with aggravated assault and was held to appear in court.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on October 7, a Bay St. George RCMP officer on patrol was flagged down by a concerned resident reporting a disturbance on nearby Holland Crecent. Officers arrived on scene and located a victim, who was assessed and transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel for treatment of injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening in nature.
The victim was able to identify the suspect as Christopher Mooney, 27. He was arrested at the scene without incident, and held in custody overnight.
Mooney is scheduled to appear in Stephenville Provincial Court today (Thursday) on a Criminal Code charge of aggravated assault. He also faces additional criminal charges of breaking and entering, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and causing mischief to property in relation to an incident early Wednesday morning.
The investigation is ongoing.
