After a successful night of trick-or-treating, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador is reminding parents and trusted adults to carefully check Hallowe’en candy, after receiving three reports in Happy Valley-Goose Bay of small metal items found in treat-sized Coffee Crisp bars collected on Saturday night.
Police are investigating to determine the source of these treats, and ask anyone who identifies a similar candy to contact the detachment at 709-896-3383 or 1-800-709-RCMP (7267).
As kids wake up eager to dive into last night’s haul, parents and caretakers across the province are reminded to check treats thoroughly to ensure they are safe to eat. Look for signs of tampering as well as manufacturing defects, and make sure the packaging is intact and that the treats are a recognizable trusted commercial brand.
If you have concerns that a treat has been tampered with, set it aside and contact your local police detachment immediately.
