Colchester County District RCMP and Millbrook RCMP Detachment arrested one man and executed a search warrant at an illegal cannabis storefront.
On July 30, RCMP officers attended an illegal cannabis storefront on Willow St. to execute a search warrant issued under the Cannabis Act. At the property, officers safely arrested a man who was later released and will not be charged. Investigators anticipate that other people will face charges as the information and evidence collected during the search warrant execution is analyzed. During the search, police seized a quantity of illegal cannabis and unstamped tobacco. Charges are pending against other persons related to this investigation.
As officers were at the property on Willow St., a small group of protesters gathered outside without incident. The RCMP respects the rights of everyone to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and notes that demonstrations were peaceful, lawful, and safe for all parties involved.
The investigation, led by the Colchester County District RCMP's Community Action Team, was supported by Millbrook RCMP Detachment, the Criminal Intelligence Services Nova Scotia, and Compliance Officers from the Department of Service Nova Scotia.
The RCMP reminds residents that the only legal way to purchase cannabis in the province is at licensed locations. Nova Scotians are encouraged to contact their nearest RCMP detachment or local police to report crime, including the illegal sale of drugs, in their communities.
