Update: RCMP charges Glace Bay man following investigation into counterfeit currency

The Nova Scotia RCMP Commercial Crime Section has charged a Glace Bay man with multiple counterfeiting, firearm, and drug offences following a nine-month investigation into the possession and importation of counterfeit Canadian currency.
The investigation began in January, when officers with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Quebec and Ontario intercepted over $30,000 in fake $10, $20, $50, and $100 Canadian bank notes, as well as counterfeit holographic security stickers, bound for an address in Glace Bay. The goods were seized by CBSA officers and reported to the Nova Scotia RCMP, CBSA and RCMP seize over 100K in counterfeit Canadian currency | Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
On February 11, RCMP officers executed a search warrant at a Glace Bay residence, seizing over $80,000 in counterfeit currency, electronic devices, a firearm, unlabelled prescription pills, and other items.
The resulting investigation was led by the Nova Scotia RCMP’s Commercial Crime Section and assisted by CBSA Atlantic Region’s Intelligence and Enforcement Operations Division, Bank of Canada, Cape Breton Regional Police Service, Nova Scotia RCMP Digital Forensic Service, the RCMP’s National Forensic Assessment Centre, Health Canada, and the National Anti-Counterfeiting Bureau.
On September 19, officers charged Charles Manning Lee, 50, of Glace Bay, with:
- Possession of Counterfeit Money
- Making Counterfeit Money
- Importing Counterfeit Money
- Buying Instruments of Counterfeiting
- Possession of Instruments of Counterfeiting
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking (3 counts)
Lee is scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on October 1.
