Southwest Nova Street Crime Enforcement Unit arrests four men operating as crime group

Following a 13-month investigation named Project Hammertime, the Southwest Nova Street Crime Enforcement Unit has arrested four people engaged in drug trafficking, arson, threats and intimidation.
On November 19, RCMP officers arrested four men without incident and executed search warrants at multiple locations in Church Point and one residence in Belliveau’s Cove.
During the searches, investigators seized a quantity of drugs and cash, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, electronic devices, a firearm, and financial documents.
“These individuals, through their criminal activities and intimidation tactics, behaved like they owned Clare,” says Superintendent Jason Popik, District Policing Officer, Southwest Nova District RCMP. “We recognize the disruption they’ve caused to the surrounding community and are pleased to be moving forward with these charges.”
Eric David Thibault, 66, of Church Point, faces charges of:
- Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
- Trafficking Cocaine (two counts)
- Arson for a Fraudulent Purpose
- Intimidation (two counts)
- Counselling to Commit Drug Trafficking
- Dangerous Driving (two counts)
- Breach of Release Order (two counts)
In consultation with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Eric Thibault is also facing several Fisheries Act charges.
Dean Joseph Stuart, 55, of Church Point, is facing charges of:
- Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine
- Trafficking Cocaine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Tusi)
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm Knowing it’s Unauthorized
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
In addition, 60-year-old Raymond Arthur Scott of Meteghan has been charged with Arson and Conspiracy to Commit Arson. And a 33-year-old man from Church Point has been arrested and will face one charge of Extortion.
The ongoing investigation is being supported by the Meteghan RCMP Detachment, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada, the Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Forensic Accounting Management Group, Canada Revenue Agency, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.
Meteghan RCMP believe that there are individuals who may have supporting evidence for this ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
