RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a man for driving while impaired by drugs.

On March 10, at approximately 4 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of an erratic driver in the area of Pockwock Rd., Hammonds Plains.  Officers learned that a Hyundai Veracruz was travelling east toward Bedford and was swerving on the roadway.  While RCMP officers were en route, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) officers were dispatched to a Hyundai Veracruz that had left the road and come to rest in a ditch in the 2100 block of Larry Uteck Blvd.

RCMP officers arrived on scene at Larry Uteck Blvd. and located the driver inside the vehicle.  The man displayed signs of impairment and was arrested.  A roadside alcohol screening test was administered, and the man passed.  The driver was transported to HRP’s Prisoner Care Facility, where he was assessed by an HRP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).  The DRE determined that the man was impaired by drugs.

The 29-year-old Halifax man will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date in relation to this incident.

The RCMP would like to thank all those who report suspected impaired drivers.  If you believe someone is driving impaired or is otherwise an immediate threat to public safety, call 911.
