RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested five youths after they were involved in a two-vehicle collision with a stolen SUV.

On March 16, at approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP and HRP officers, along with EHS and fire services, responded to a report of a possible collision in the area of Pleasant St. in Shearwater. Officers learned that an unregistered cell phone had called 911, and the call-taker could hear a group of people talking about a flat tire and then screaming.

Responding officers located two vehicles in the 700 block of Pleasant St.  The initial investigation indicates that a Mitsubishi Outlander was travelling northwest and a GMC Sierra was travelling southeast when they collided on the roadway.

The Outlander had been reported stolen out of Truro earlier in the day.

The driver and lone occupant of the Sierra, a 31-year-old man from Halifax, was transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the stolen Outlander and four passengers, all youths from Truro, were arrested.  They were then transported to hospital by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.

The youth driver and three youth passengers will face charges in relation to the incident.  They were released pending a future court date.

One youth passenger was released without charge.

The investigation is ongoing.
