RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Head of Chezzetcook.
On May 2, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a traffic officer was conducting proactive patrols westbound on Hwy. 7 near Chezzetcook when they observed a motorcycle was travelling eastbound at a speed exceeding the posted limit. The officer turned the police vehicle around and attempted to close the distance with emergency equipment activated.
The officer subsequently deactivated their emergency equipment, recognizing the motorcycle continued to accelerate. The officer continued eastbound, where he observed the motorcycle in the ditch and the driver lying in the roadway.
Emergency Health Services and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency were called to provide medical assistance; however, the driver succumbed to his injuries.
The 42-year-old man from Ostrea Lake was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and Hwy. 7 was closed for several hours. It has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.
