Yarmouth Rural RCMP has charged a man with attempted murder after an assault in Quinan.

On May 9, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Yarmouth Rural and Yarmouth Town RCMP officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 7700 block of Hwy. 308. Officers learned there was an altercation between two men, known to one another, outside a residence and one of the men was shot by the other. The suspect then fled in a grey SUV, later determined to be a Dodge Journey, before officers arrived. The 22-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by EHS.

While on route, responding officers observed the suspect vehicle on Hwy. 308 heading out of the Quinan area. They followed the vehicle and initiated a high-risk traffic stop entering onto Hwy. 103 in Tusket. The three occupants, two women and a man, were safely arrested.

Through the investigation, officers determined the firearm used was a shotgun and that one of the women arrested was not involved in the incident. She was released without charges.

Luke Stephen John Boyd, 25, of Digby, has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, multiple firearms offences, and Failure to Comply with Probation Order (two counts). He has been remanded into custody and will next appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on June 9.

Chelsea Edwards, 25, of Digby, has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Unauthorized Possession in a Motor Vehicle. She was released to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on July 6.
