Antigonish County District RCMP has charged a man after he fled from officers near Maryvale.
On May 11, at approximately 9 p.m., Antigonish County District RCMP officers were proactively patrolling on Hwy. 245 when they observed a truck without its taillights on.
One of the officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver didn’t stop and increased their speed, driving away from the officer. In the interest of public safety, the officer did not pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, officers located the truck abandoned in a parking lot on Old Maryvale Rd. Officers searched the area and spoke with neighbours. As the search and investigation continued, officers heard noise in a nearby wooded area and began calling for those in the woods to present themselves. A man and a woman then exited and were safely arrested.
David Pellerine, 31, of Stellarton, was identified as the driver of the truck and has been charged with Flight from Police. He was also issued several summary offence tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Pellerine was released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date. The woman was released without charge.
