Matthew Francis Coaker, who was wanted on a province-wide warrant for attempted murder, has been arrested.

On March 28, at approximately 1:35 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment and EHS responded to a report of an injured person in the 1800 block of St. Margarets Bay Rd. in Timberlea.  Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old man who had been stabbed following an altercation.  The victim was transported to hospital by EHS with life-threatening injuries.

In April, a province-wide warrant for Coaker’s arrest was issued.

On June 11, officers with the RCMP/HRP Integrated General Investigation Section, with the assistance of HRP’s Emergency Response Team, Quick Response Unit and Critical Incident Program, arrested Coaker at a home in the 0-100 block of Highfield Park Dr. in Dartmouth.  A firearm was located and seized at the residence.

Cheyenne Tanisha Amero, 34, of Kingston, was also arrested after investigators determined she had assisted Coaker with evading police.

Coaker, 37, of Halifax, had been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose in relation to the Timberlea stabbing.

Coaker and Amero are now both facing charges of:

  • Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited/Restricted Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon, Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order
  • Unsafe Storage of Firearm

Coaker is facing an additional charge of Aggravated Assault, while Amero is facing an additional charge of Accessory After the Fact, both in relation to the Timberlea incident.

Coaker and Amero are appearing in Halifax Provincial Court on June 12.

The RCMP thanks members of the public for their support in locating Coaker.
