RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment arrested a man for impaired driving after stopping his vehicle for excessive speed.
On June 27, at approximately 9:30 a.m., an RCMP officer conducting proactive patrols on Hwy. 103 near Upper Tantallon observed a vehicle driving at speeds that appeared to be significantly over the posted limit of 110km/h.
Radar confirmed the Subaru Crosstrek was travelling at approximately 149km/h.
The officer safely conducted a traffic stop on the Subaru and noted that the driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, showed signs of impairment by alcohol. The driver provided a roadside breath sample into an approved screening device, which resulted in a “fail.”
The a 26-year-old man from Mahone Bay was arrested and transported to the Tantallon RCMP detachment, where he provided additional breath samples registering 110mg% and 100mg%.
He will face charges for impaired driving and was released pending a future court appearance. He was also issued a summary offence ticket under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act for an expired driver’s licence and having open alcohol in the vehicle.
Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of deaths on Nova Scotia roadways. To report a suspected impaired driver, call 911.
