Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred Oak Island in the Northumberland Strait.
On June 30, at approximately 10:40 p.m., RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a person ejected from a boat. Officers learned five people were on a boat that ran aground near Oak Island, off the shore of Wallace Bay. One of the passengers, a 24-year-old Wallace man, was thrown from the vessel and had life-threatening injuries.
Fire services transported the man to the wharf in Wallace where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the boat, a 19-year-old Wallace Station man, was arrested and has since been released pending further investigation.
Cumberland County District RCMP appreciates support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Coast Guard as this investigation is ongoing.
