Annapolis District RCMP responded to two reports initially believed to involve firearms on July 13. One resulted in the arrest of a man and the seizure of an imitation firearm. The other was found to be fireworks.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person carrying a firearm in Middleton. There were no reports that the man, who was on foot, had pointed the firearm or used it in a threatening manner.

Officers initially believed that the man was inside a building on Commercial St., then later learned he was at a residence on North St. When officers attended the property, they found a pellet gun on the lawn that matched the description of the firearm reported by witnesses. The man exited the residence as officers arrived on scene and he was safely arrested. Officers seized the pellet gun.

The man remains in custody for unrelated charges. This investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 10000 block of Hwy. 201 in Meadowvale. Officers investigated and determined the noise was caused by fireworks, which was confirmed by debris found in a yard.

Public safety was the top priority for the officers as they investigated both of these calls. Officers take reports of firearms seriously, understand the concern in the community as these calls are unfolding, and appreciate cooperation from witnesses and anyone impacted.
