Kings District RCMP arrested a man for impaired driving after damage to a propane tank led to a propane leak.

On September 29 at approximately 5:50 p.m., Kings District RCMP and other first responders attended a report of a significant propane leak from a tank in the parking lot associated to several businesses on Commercial St. Officers initially attended to support fire services with any evacuations or road closures that may have been necessary.

On further investigation, officers learned that a propane truck had filled a large tank on the property then drove away with the hose from the truck still attached, which caused damage to the tank and resulted in the leak. As the truck left the area, the hose also struck another vehicle in the lot. The driver of that vehicle reported injuries and was treated on scene by EHS.

Investigators contacted the company that owns the propane truck and the driver returned to the parking lot. Officers noted signs of impairment by alcohol from the driver, who provided a roadside breath sample into an approved screening device (ASD) which resulted in a “fail.”

The driver was arrested and transported to the Kings District RCMP Detachment in New Minas, where he provided breath samples that registered 180mg% and 170mg%.

The 46-year-old North Kentville man was released pending a future court appearance scheduled for November and will face charges related to impaired driving.

Fire services stopped the leak. No other injuries were reported by bystanders or first responders.

To report a suspected impaired driver, call 911.
