Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Canaan.

On November 5, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Kings District RCMP, EHS, and fire services responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 500-block of English Mountain Rd.

Officers learned that a Jeep Liberty had left the roadway and struck a power pole, causing a power outage in the area. A man believed to have been an occupant of the Jeep at the time of the crash informed a nearby resident that a woman was injured before leaving the area on foot.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the injured woman inside the vehicle. The 40-year-old from South Scots Bay was transported to hospital by EHS with life-threatening injuries.  She was later pronounced deceased.

Efforts to locate the man, which included the use of a remotely piloted aerial system, were unsuccessful.

The roadway was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the location of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash, including those with dashcam footage, is asked to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555.

Our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones at this difficult time.
