Nunavut RCMP Specialized Investigative Team assist Winnipeg Police Service in internet child exploitation investigation

Since 2021, the Nunavut RCMP’s Specialized Investigative Team (SIT) has been investigating several incidents of internet child exploitation. Over the course of three years, a suspect surfaced in five separate police investigation, all believe to have occurred in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Through the course of the investigation, the SIT unit was able to identify a male suspect, and learned that he had relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. The SIT unit worked in partnership with the Winnipeg Police Service, Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) to further the investigation.
On December 4, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service ICE unit, executed a searched warrant at a location where the suspect was residing. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old, Robin Idlout. The Winnipeg Police Service has charged him with:
- Possession of Child Pornography, contrary to Section 163.1(4) C.C
- Accessing Child Pornography, contrary to Section 163.1(4.1) C.C
Idlout was released from custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for January 13, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Nunavut RCMP takes child pornography and sexual assaults very seriously, and work hard to ensuring that children are saved and protected from further sexual exploitation.
