Whale Cove early morning fire under investigation

On September 29, 2025, at approximately 2:52 a.m, the Whale Cover RCMP responded to a report of a fire to a fourplex housing residences in the 200 block.
On arrival responding police members observed the front entrance to a residence on fire. Local volunteer fire fighters were able to extinguish the flames and remove an unconscious adult male from the residence. Police and volunteers performed life saving measures on the adult male and transported him to the local health center. The 38-year-old male was later pronounced deceased.
The fire is suspicious in nature and RCMP are investigating the incident with the assistance from the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s office and the Nunavut Coroners office.
