Kimmirut RCMP charge 23-year-old man with attempt to commit murder

On November 22, 2025, at approximately 11:18 p.m, the Kimmirut RCMP received a report that a male had shot at an occupied vehicle. Police were able to locate the suspect in a residence and began negotiating with him. Negotiations were successful and the male surrendered to police.

The Kimmirut RCMP have charged Brandon Atsiaq (age 23) with:

• Attempt to commit murder, Section 239(1)(b) C.C
• Possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, Section 88(1) C.C
• Assault by Strangulation, Section 267(c) C.C
• Assault, Section 266 C.C
• Discharge a firearm with intent, Section 244.2(1)(a) C.C
• Careless storage of firearm, Section 86(1) C.C

Atsiaq was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for November 26, 2025, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are requesting information from community members that may have witnessed the incident or have taken video of the incident to contact investigators by either attending the Kimmirut RCMP detachment or by calling the detachment at 867-939-0123.
