Iqaluit man charged with armed robbery

On December 3, 2025, at approximately 3:37 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred in a residence in the Joamie Court area of Iqaluit, Nunavut. The investigation revealed that Kevin Mathewsie had robbed a person in a residence and two other people in a vehicle, that was parked by the residence at gun point.
Police were able to locate Mathewsie and placed him under arrest. During the apprehension and subsequent processing, Mathewsie resisted the arresting police officer.
The Iqaluit RCMP have charged Kevin Mathewsie (age 27) with:
- Break and entering and committing an indictable offence, Section 348(1)(b) C.C
- Three counts of Robbery with a firearm, Section 344(1)(a) C.C
- Carrying Concealed weapon, Section 90(1) C.C
- Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1) C.C
- Unauthorized possession of a Firearm, Section 91(1) C.C
- Tampering with Serial Number, Section 108(1) C.C
- Careless use of a Firearm, Section 86(1) C.C
- Resist Arrest, Section 129(a) C.C
- Fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a) C.C
- Breach Probation, Section 733.1(1) C.C
Mathewsie was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for January 6, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
