Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit investigate homicide in Arviat

On December 15, 2025, at approximately 02:30 a.m., the Arviat RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive 48-year-old male inside a residence on 10^th street. The male was transported to the local health centre where he was pronounced deceased. 

The scene was secured by the RCMP and a male, known to the victim, was located at the scene and arrested.  

The Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is currently in the community to assist with the investigation. 37 year old Ashley Mamgark, has been charged with second degree murder. His next court appearance is January 06^th, 2026 in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
