In September 2025, the Iqaluit RCMP were informed by Canada Post Postal Inspectors that a parcel destined for Iqaluit was identified as non-mailable matter and subsequently referred to law enforcement, where it was found to contain approximately one kilogram of cocaine. The information was forwarded to the Iqaluit RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), whom initiated a comprehensive investigation.

On March 13, 2026, as part of this ongoing investigation, RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in Iqaluit. During the search, police seized approximately $27,000 in cash, four cell phones, a drug score sheet, and a cross‑bow.

On March 20, 2026, a Search Warrant was executed for a parcel shipped from Iqaluit, in transit in the postal system and destined for a location outside of the territory. Police have established that the content of the parcel contained a 100 ounce silver bar which was subsequently seized as evidence.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals, Ian Hardage and Mark Prussick have been both charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, contrary to section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal Code.

Mark Prussick was additionally charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a cross‑bow while prohibited, contrary to section 117.01 of the Criminal Code.

Both have been released on bail and will next appear in court on April 20, 2026.

The Iqaluit RCMP would also like to recognize Ottawa Police and their assistance in this investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The RCMP remains committed to disrupting the flow of illicit drugs into Nunavut communities and thanks Canada Post for their cooperation in this matter.
