Nunavut Major Crime Unit Investigating Suspicious Death in Baker Lake

The Nunavut RCMP Major Crime Unit are currently in Baker Lake investigating the suspicious death of 45 year old George Narkyagik.

On April 02, 2026, shortly after 5:00 a.m., the Baker Lake RCMP responded to a call for service requesting assistance for an unresponsive male. The male was transported to the Health Centre where he was pronounced deceased.

The death was suspicious in nature, and the investigation was taken over by the Nunavut Major Crime Unit.

The Major Crime investigators are requesting local assistance and would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area of building 2073 between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 02, 2026. 

Anyone with information related to this investigation, or who may have seen or heard anything of relevance during that time, are asked to contact the Baker Lake RCMP at 867‑793‑1111. 

Victim Services is available to provide support to George Narkyagik’s family during this difficult time.
