Iqaluit RCMP Investigating a Sudden Death

On April 3^rd, 2026, ad 12:05 a.m., the Iqaluit RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of the city.

Police attended and located a male with life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Qikiqtani General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Kendra Amaaq (24) and Owen Amaaq (19) of Iqaluit, Nunavut have been arrested and charged with: 

• 1^st degree murder, contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
• Disguised with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, contrary to Section 351(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Kendra and Owen have been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. Their next court appearance is set for May 5^th, 2026 in Iqaluit, Nunavut. 

As the matter is now before the courts, police will not be releasing any further details.
