Iqaluit RCMP identify individuals in Astro Hill Grocery Store property damage investigation

The Iqaluit RCMP have identified four individuals in the investigation of the Inuulisautinut Niuvirvik (Astro Hill Grocery Store) property damage, one adult and three youth. The involved youth were cautioned under Section 6 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The one youth has been diverted to the Community Restorative Justice Program.

Background: 

On March 26, 2026, the Iqaluit RCMP received a report of property damage to the Astro Hill Grocery Store. Surveillance footage obtained by police showed four unidentified individuals at the property with one individual damaging the windows. The damage to the store was estimated at $3000.00. 

On April 2, 2026, the Nunavut RCMP published a news release requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals. After the news release was published, the Iqaluit RCMP received multiple tips from the public, which helped investigator’s identity those involved. 

The Iqaluit RCMP thank the public for their assistance.
