Igloolik man charged with Second Degree Murder

On April 23, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m, the Igloolik RCMP responded to a report that an male had been transported to the local health centre deceased.
Police arrived at the health centre and believed the death to be criminal in nature. Police identified a suspect and placed him under arrest.
The Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and on April 23, 2026, charged, Leonard Qamaniq (age 39) with the Second-Degree Murder contrary to Section 235(1) C.C
Qamaniq was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 9, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
