Rankin Inlet RCMP arrest and charge man following reported firearm incident

Rankin Inlet RCMP have charged a man in connection with a reported firearm incident in a residence at Tuungaaq Street. 

On April 29, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m, police responded to a report that a male had entered a residence, threatened the occupants and discharged a firearm. There were no reported injuries. 

Police located the suspect and arrested him without incident. The Rankin Inlet RCMP have charged Jamesie Alariaq (age 43) with: 

  • Break and enter a dwelling house, Section 348(1)(b) C.C
  • Using a firearm in commission of offence, Section 85(1)(a) C.C
  • Carry a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, Section 88(1) C.C
  • Two counts of Pointing a Firearm, Section 87(1) C.C
  • Two counts of Uttering Threats to cause death, Section 264.1(1)(a) C.C
  • Discharging Firearm, Section 244.2(3) C.C
  • Two counts of Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Section 86(2) C.C

Alariaq was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 19, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
