Rankin Inlet RCMP respond to firearms incident, one man charged

On August 9^th, 2026, the Rankin Inlet RCMP responded to a firearms-related incident after receiving reports of gunshots in the area of 68^th Street.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., police received information that a gunshot had been heard and that a male, later identified as Brian Airut, 30 years of age, was seen inside a residence carrying a firearm. Additional reports indicated that several shots had been fired.

To ensure public safety, RCMP officers established containment around the residence and maintained communication with Airut. Following discussions with police, Airut exited the residence voluntarily at approximately 11:45 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Brian AIRUT has been charged with multiple firearms offences and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 17, 2026.
