The Arctic Bay Hunters and Trappers Association – victim of an RCMP fraud investigation

The RCMP have charged a former manager of the Arctic Bay Hunters and Trappers Association following a fraud investigation. 

In November 2024, police received information regarding unauthorized financial transactions involving the Ikajutit Hunters and Trappers Association in Arctic Bay. The investigation revealed that more than $230,000 in unauthorized transactions occurred between 2022 and 2024.

Amy Barnabas, 39, of Arctic Bay, was arrested and charged with:

• Fraud over $5,000, contrary to section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Bookkeeping fraud, contrary to section 397(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Criminal breach of trust, contrary to section 336 of the Criminal Code.

Barnabas was released on an Release Order issued by the Nunavut Court of Justice. Her next court appearance is on October 5, 2026 in Arctic Bay. 

As the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided at this time.
