Nunavut RCMP charge youth with First Degree Murder

On October 9, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m, the Chesterfield Inlet RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a residence. Police arrived on scene and located an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the local health center where he was pronounced deceased. 

Police arrested a youth in connection to the incident and on October 9, 2026, the Nunavut RCMP Major Crime Unit, charged the youth with First Degree Murder, contrary to Section 235 C.C. 

The youth is remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice on November 16, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut. 

As the matter is before the courts, police will not be providing further details.
