Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit investigating Homicide

On October 6, 2026, at approximately 9:55 p.m, the Iqaluit RCMP responded to an altercation in the 300 block of Iqaluit, Nunavut. Two individuals were transported to the Qikiqtani General Hospital with life threatening injuries. Despite life saving measures, one male succumbed to his injuries. The second was medivaced to Ottawa, Ontario for further treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. 

The deceased has been identified as Robert Kipanik (age 38). The Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crime Unit have taken over the investigation and are investigating Kipanik’s death as a homicide.
