One man is in custody after ramming police vehicles and assaulting officers while attempting to evade arrest.
On December 12th at approximately 1:30 a.m. Yellowknife RCMP received a 9-1-1 call in which a person was audible screaming for help on the line. Further information was received that an assault had occurred at a residence in Dettah and the suspect was in possession of a firearm. Officers attended the scene and learned that a second person had also been assaulted and that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
Shortly after, officers observed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle attempted to flee the traffic stop and became stuck in a ditch. While attempting to drive out of the ditch, the suspect vehicle rammed two police vehicles before coming to a stop.
The suspect exited the vehicle and engaged in an altercation with officers. He was ultimately taken into custody after a successful Taser deployment. No firearm was located. The claim that he was in possession of a firearm has not been substantiated.
