Fort Providence RCMP lay charges in October firearm and drug seizure

Police in Fort Providence have laid charges after concluding an investigation that began in October of this year.
On October 8th, 2025, while serving court documents at a residence in the community, officers were informed by the homeowner that a quantity of suspected crack-cocaine had been located in a bedroom.
Officers secured the residence and obtained a search warrant. Upon the execution of the search warrant, officers located several long guns, including a sawed-off rifle, a ballistic vest, approximately 56 grams of crack cocaine, over 130 codeine tablets as well as other drug trafficking paraphernalia.
As a result, 32-year-old Westlin Sabourin of Fort Providence was arrested on December 15th and has been charged with:
• (2 counts) Trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• (2 counts) Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence, contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody, next appearing in court on January 13th, 2026.
