On May 21, 2026, Queens District RCMP, Island EMS and North Shore Fire Department were dispatched to a pedestrian collision in Dunstaffnage. A youth, who was crossing the road to get onto a school bus was struck by a transport truck. The youth later succumbed to their injuries.

RCMP conducted a complete investigation to determine if criminality was a factor. This included detailed examination of the scene by a PEI RCMP Collision Reconstructionist who gathered photographs, measurements for calculations determining speeds and vehicle trajectories, reviewed a detailed mechanical inspection of vehicles involved, and conducted interviews with witnesses. This investigation is now complete, and it has been determined there will be no charges.
