On July 2, 2026, at 4:07 p.m. Queens District RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP Traffic Services Unit, responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver operating an e-bike in Cymbria.
Police located a 47-year-old man who was exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment and had been operating a battery-powered bicycle. The man was arrested for impaired operation and was transported for further testing, the man provided breath samples that were more than twice the criminal legal alcohol limit.
PEI RCMP remind the public that impaired driving laws apply to the operation of any motorized conveyance, not just cars and trucks. Motorized conveyances include e-bikes, e-scooters, ride-on lawn mowers, all terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, tractors, and other motorized vehicles.
Anyone who plans to consume alcohol or drugs should also plan for a safe and sober ride home. Choosing a designated driver, taxi, or other safe transportation option can prevent serious consequences and save lives.
If you suspect someone is operating a vehicle while impaired, call 911 immediately. Your call could help prevent a collision, serious injury, or loss of life.
