Home invasion in O’Leary leads to arrest, Police asking public for assistance locating additional suspect

PEI RCMP have charged one individual and are asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect believed to have also been involved in a home invasion and assault.
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m. Prince District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a home invasion and assault in O’Leary. Three individuals broke into the home and assaulted one of the residents with baseball bats. That individual was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. The suspects fled the scene after stealing property from the residence including a vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered not far from the scene. The three suspects are known to police, and this is believed to be an isolated incident with no concern for broader public safety.
One suspect has been charged with five offences under the Criminal Code. Zachary Alfred Doucette, 29, of O’Leary has been charged with:
- Break and enter – Section 348(1)(b)
- Robbery with other offensive weapon – Section 344
- Disguised with intent to commit an offence – Section 352(1)
- Theft of motor vehicle – Section 333.1(1)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – Section 88(1)
Doucette has been remanded in custody pending a later court appearance.
Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating a second suspect, 31-year-old Brandon Allan Butler, of Summerside, PEI. He is described as Caucasian, about 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. The third suspect is a young offender who cannot be named. RCMP Police Dog Services, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, West Prince RCMP, RCMP General Investigation Section, the Joint Forces Operations and Prince Joint Enforcement Team members have also been involved in the investigation which remains ongoing.
