PEI man arrested in New Brunswick on warrant related to O'Leary home invasion

Prince District RCMP and the RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section efforts have led to the remand into custody of Brandon Allan Vance Butler following a home invasion in O'Leary on August 5, 2026. Butler was arrested in New Brunswick by members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit.
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Prince District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion and assault at a residence in O'Leary. Three individuals forced their way into the home and assaulted one of the residents with baseball bats. The victim was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The suspects fled the scene after stealing a vehicle. The vehicle was recovered a short distance away.
As a result of the investigation, Zachary Alfred Doucette, 29, of O'Leary, was arrested, remanded into custody, and charged with:
- Break and enter
- Robbery with an offensive weapon
- Disguise with intent to commit an offence
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
A youth, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has also been charged with:
- Break and enter
- Robbery with an offensive weapon
- Disguise with intent to commit an offence
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Theft of a motor vehicle
Police subsequently identified 31-year-old Brandon Allan Vance Butler as the third suspect. Investigators sought public assistance in locating him after he fled the scene.
On August 26, 2026, members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit located and arrested Butler in New Brunswick. He was returned to Prince Edward Island and remanded into custody.
Butler has been charged with:
- Break and enter
- Robbery
- Wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Operation while prohibited (four counts)
- Dangerous operation
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Resisting or obstructing a peace officer
"Home invasions are violent and traumatic offences that have a significant impact on victims and communities," says Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer of the Prince Edward Island RCMP. The investigation involved members of Prince District RCMP, RCMP Codiac Crime Reduction Unit and the Prince District Joint Forces Operations.
