On Sep 2, 2026, at 8:44 p.m. Stratford RCMP responded to a head on two vehicle collision on Stratford Road. Seven people were injured and the driver of one car fled the scene and is still at large. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in this crash.
Initial investigation indicates that a blue Chevrolet Equinox traveling towards the Hillsborough Bridge crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming SUV. The driver of the Equinox fled the scene following the collision. The passenger in the Equinox was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Five occupants were travelling in the other vehicle. All sustained minor injuries and were treated for their injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing and police continue efforts to locate the driver. Crossroads Fire Department and Island EMS responded to this incident.
