Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on Route 1 in Cherry Valley.
On October 8, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Kings District RCMP, members of the Cross Roads and Vernon River Fire Departments, Island EMS, the Coroner's Office, and the Department of Transportation responded to a two-vehicle collision on Route 1 involving an SUV and a pickup truck.
Preliminary investigation indicates the SUV crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction. Following the collision, the pickup truck rolled over and caught fire.
The driver of the pickup truck, a man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV, a woman, was also pronounced deceased at the scene. No other occupants were involved in the collision.
A Collision Reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation remains ongoing. Heavy rainfall at the time of the collision is believed to have been a contributing factor.
