A call to 911 by a member of the public has helped Kings District RCMP locate and charge an impaired driver in New Perth, PEI.

Just after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Kings District RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle crash thanks to a 911 call from a member of the public. The vehicle was seen driving into a ditch and coming to a stop on Route 356, Collins Rd., in New Perth. Upon arrival, Kings RCMP found the driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, exhibiting signs of impairment.

The driver, a 56-year-old Kings County man, was arrested and taken to Kings RCMP detachment where two breath samples were taken. The man blew 250 mg/100ml of blood, which is more than three times the legal limit of 80 mg/100ml. The man has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, impaired operation of a vehicle over 80 mg, and driving while suspended. His vehicle was impounded and he will make an appearance in court at a later date to answer to the charges. The investigation into this incident remains on going.
