Supporting communities and victims

The Family Violence Initiative (FVI) is a long-term commitment made by the Government of Canada to address relationship and family violence and victim issues. Family Violence is any form of abuse or neglect that a child, adult, or senior experiences from a family member or from someone they have a shared intimate relationship with.

As a partner to the FVI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Vulnerable Persons Unit (VPU) distributes funding to non-profit community organizations, as well as to municipal, provincial and territorial partners, to support communities in responding to ─ and reducing incidents of ─ family violence. It allows for the development of resources, tools and information to educate on the prevalence, and dynamics of, family violence and encourage victims and witnesses to seek assistance. In 2025-2026, the fund supported 17 initiatives, with a total of $315,772.70.

Objectives of the fund

The fund helps community partners:

  • promote awareness of relationship and family violence
  • assist victims of family and relationship violence
  • foster crime prevention in Indigenous communities

The fund strives to foster and continually develop strong partnerships between Canadians and the RCMP across Canada. Selected recipients will represent regions from all across Canada with the aim to address various differing regional challenges.

How to use the fund
