Assistant Commissioner

Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore took official command of Saskatchewan RCMP as its Commanding Officer on April 12, 2021 after serving in various posts across Canada during a career in policing spanning nearly 30 years.

Leading Saskatchewan RCMP, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore oversees almost 1,600 employees, including over 1,100 sworn officers at more than 80 detachments.

Since 2021, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore has attended countless community events, feasts, luncheons, celebrations and meetings in communities across the province. She continues to build positive relationships with local leadership to identify challenges facing their communities and works collaboratively to address unique policing needs.

As Commanding Officer in Saskatchewan, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore has been passionate about recruiting new police officers to the RCMP. She launched the RCMP's first Indigenous Recruitment Unit in 2022 to prioritize the proactive recruitment of Indigenous people and ensure the RCMP in Saskatchewan is representative of the communities we serve. 

Assistant Commissioner Blackmore is also a vocal advocate for health and wellness. Prior to and since being named the RCMP's first National Fitness Champion in August 2024, she has driven initiatives that promote physical health and education. Everyday, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore fosters a supportive environment where employees can feel empowered to pursue their fitness goals and stay healthy on the job.

Taking official command of Saskatchewan RCMP brought Assistant Commissioner Blackmore back to the province where her policing career began. She joined the RCMP in 1995 and spent the first seven years in general duty policing in Assiniboia, Regina and Buffalo Narrows.

In 2002, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore transferred to RCMP National Headquarters in Ottawa.

During her first years in the nation's capital, she joined the Operational Policy Unit, the National Division Emergency Response Team, the Criminal Intelligence Directorate of National Security Investigations, the

National Use of Force Program and the Contract and Indigenous Policing Executive Team.

Assistant Commissioner Blackmore became the Officer in Charge of the National Police Intervention Unit in late 2013. In this role, she oversaw the implementation of 19 of the 64 MacNeil Report recommendations following the deadly shooting of three RCMP officers in Moncton, New Brunswick. She also managed the implementation of the National Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation training and the introduction of new, less-lethal intervention options.

In 2015, Assistant Commissioner Blackmore was promoted as the Director of Operational Policies and Programs. She was promoted to Chief Superintendent in May 2018, as the District Commander of Western Alberta District.

Assistant Commissioner Blackmore grew up on a farm near Hanover, Ontario. She has a Bachelor of Physical Education from McMaster University.
