Attempted murder charge laid after Saskatchewan RCMP officer injured

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Provincial General Investigation Section has continued to investigate a firearm incident on Muskowekwan First Nation on July 24, 2025. This incident resulted in a Saskatchewan RCMP officer being injured, and a dangerous person alert being issued for the area. A firearm and ammunition were recovered as part of this ongoing investigation.
28-year-old Elijah Albert of Muskowekwan First Nation, SK is now charged with:
- one count, attempted murder with a firearm, Section 239(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code;
- one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
- one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code.
Elijah Albert is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on July 30, 2025.

UPDATE #1: Dangerous person alert issued for Muskowekwan First Nation and surrounding area
On July 24, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., Punnichy RCMP responded to a report of an armed individual at a residence on Muskowekwan First Nation.
As officers arrived at the scene, a firearm was discharged, and an officer was struck. The officer was transported to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life threatening in nature.
An armed individual fled the residence on foot. There were other occupants in the residence. None reported physical injuries to police.
Saskatchewan RCMP carefully monitored this situation, which included continual assessment as to whether a dangerous person alert was required.
At approximately 6:36 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP issued a dangerous person alert for the Muskowekwan First Nation and surrounding area.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team located the suspect at a rural location near Lestock, Saskatchewan. The area was contained and at approximately 8:50 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team took the suspect into custody. The dangerous person alert was cancelled.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Provincial General Investigation Section has now taken carriage of this ongoing investigation. Charges have not been laid at this time. Investigators do not believe there is any further elevated risk to public safety associated with this incident.

CANCELLED: Dangerous person alert issued for Muskowekwan First Nation and surrounding area
RCMP arrested Elijah Albert at a rural location near Lestock, Saskatchewan.
The dangerous person alert issued by the Saskatchewan RCMP for the Muskowekwan First Nation area has been cancelled.
Investigators thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

Saskatchewan RCMP is issuing a dangerous person alert for the Muskowekwan First Nation and surrounding area.
There is a dangerous person with a firearm in the area of Muskowekwan First Nation.
The suspect is a 28-year-old male, Elijah Albert. He was last seen wearing a blue sweater, blue jeans and a dark backpack.
He is armed with a rifle.
He was last seen heading into the bush around Muskowekwan First Nation. He is possibly on foot or on a quad.
If in the area, seek immediate shelter and shelter in place. Do not leave a secure location. Lock windows and doors. Do not pick up hitchhikers. Report emergencies to 911.
