Indian Head RCMP seize opium and 4.9 million illicit cigarettes in Highway #1 traffic stop

On July 7, 2025, at approximately 9 p.m., Indian Head RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a tractor trailer unit on Highway #1, near Indian Head, SK.
The adult male driver and adult male passenger were travelling from Ontario to British Columbia. As a result of investigation, officers conducted a search of the semi and trailer. Officers located and seized approximately 247 grams of opium and 490 boxes containing approximately 4.9 million unstamped cigarettes. The driver and passenger were arrested at the scene.
Manjinder Singh, 27, and Harmanjeet Singh, 23, both from Brampton, ON, are each charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, sell, offer for sale, transport, deliver, distribute, or have in his possession for the purpose of sale a tobacco product, or a raw leaf tobacco that is unstamped, Section 121.1(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, sell, offer for sale of have in his possession a tobacco product unstamped, Section 32(1), Excise Act;
- one count, unlawfully import tobacco into Saskatchewan, Section 27(2) and Section 27(5), Tobacco Tax Act; and
- one count, possess, store, transport or sell tobacco that is not marked in a prescribed manner, Section 11(8), Tobacco Tax Act.
Manjinder Singh and Harmanjeet Singh are scheduled to appear in Indian Head Provincial Court on October 21, 2025.
