Two charged after more than 7 million illegal cigarettes seized

On February 21, 2026, the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol was conducting inspections at the weigh scale on Highway #1 near Swift Current.

They determined a semi was carrying what was believed to be illegal tobacco products. The Saskatchewan Highway Patrol contacted Swift Current Rural RCMP to continue the investigation.

Officers located and seized 26 pallets of illegal cigarettes in the semi trailer. It’s estimated the pallets contained about 7.2 million cigarettes.

Two adult males were arrested.

24-year-old Hardev Singh and 28-year-old Sukhpreet Singh, both from Brampton, ON, are each charged with:

- one count, unlawfully possess tobacco for sale, Section 121.1(1), Criminal Code;

- one count, unlawfully possess unmarked tobacco, Section 32(1), Excise Act; and

- one count, unlawfully possess tobacco, Section 11(2), Tobacco Tax Act.

They are scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 1, 2026.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Swift Current Municipal RCMP and Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team also assisted in this investigation.
