Battlefords RCMP have determined that the report of an armed suspicious person and the lockdown at North Battleford Comprehensive High School were unrelated incidents.
Further investigation has determined that the lockdown procedure was initiated within the school at approximately 3:25 p.m. At 3:27 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a suspicious person with a possible firearm near the high school.
Battlefords RCMP responded immediately, clearing the high school and ensuring a safe evacuation. At 4:15 p.m., an individual matching the description of the suspicious person was taken into custody. No firearm was located.
Background:
On March 17 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a suspicious person, believed to be armed with a firearm, near North Battleford Comprehensive High School in North Battleford, SK.
A Battlefords RCMP school liaison officer was already at the school when the initial report came in. The school initially activated their lockdown procedures when the call came in. The lockdown has since been lifted and police assisted with the safe release of students from the school.
Officers continue to conduct patrols in the area.
The suspicious person is described as a male, wearing a white hoodie and black pants and possibly carrying a firearm. Last seen in the area of 17th Avenue near 103rd Street and 104th Street in North Battleford. If anyone has information about a male matching this description, please report it to police by calling 310-RCMP.
