Carrot River RCMP have charged an adult male with attempted murder in relation to a shooting that occurred on Red Earth Cree Nation.
On March 31, 2026 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Carrot River RCMP and Nipawin RCMP received a report of a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded and located an injured male. The male was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious in nature.
Investigation determined an altercation occurred between two males outside a residence on Red Earth Cree Nation. During the altercation, one of the males discharged a firearm, injuring the second male. The male suspect then fled from the area on foot.
That same evening, a male was arrested on Red Earth Cree Nation by Carrot River RCMP.
As a result of investigation, 24-year-old Floyd Nawakayas from Red Earth Cree Nation is charged with:
- one count, attempted murder, Section 239(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code.
Floyd Nawakayas appeared in court in Nipawin on April 1, 2026 (Information #90535394). He is scheduled to appear next in court in Carrot River on April 9, 2026.
