Pierceland RCMP arrested and charged two males following a shooting that occurred on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.
On April 8, 2026 at approximately 1:50 p.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report of a shooting on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined a male was walking on Big Island Lake Cree Nation when a truck pulled up beside him. Two males inside the truck were armed with a firearm and discharged it, injuring the male pedestrian. The truck drove away. The injured male was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
Pierceland RCMP searched the area and located a vehicle matching the truck’s description outside a residence on Big Island Lake Cree Nation. Officers engaged Meadow Lake RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team, Traffic Services, and Police Dog Services to assist. Seven adults later exited the residence and were arrested by police.
As a result of continued investigation, 27-year-old Damon Kiseyinewakup and 31-year-old Sloane Ochuschayoo both from Big Island Lake Cree Nation are charged with:
- one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code; and
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268, Criminal Code.
Damon Kiseyinewakup is additionally charged with one count, failing to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.
Damon Kiseyinewakup and Sloane Ochuschayoo appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 9, 2026 (Information #90597763).
The other occupants of the residence were released without charge.
Pierceland RCMP, with additional assistance from Battlefords RCMP’s Forensic Identification Team, continue to investigate.
