ARRESTED: Prince Albert RCMP WEST asking the public to report sightings of Matthew Barker

Two males wanted on outstanding warrants have been arrested following a significant joint investigation in Saskatchewan RCMP’s Central district.
Prince Albert RCMP Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST), with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and Rose Valley RCMP, arrested Matthew Barker on April 21 in Rose Valley RCMP’s detachment area. Barker was located by RCMP CIRT inside an industrial generator on a rural property.
Barker was wanted on warrant by Nipawin RCMP for charges including:
- one count, fail to comply with probation order, Section 733.1, Criminal Code;
- two counts; possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, unlicensed possession of a firearm with ammunition, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
- two counts, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of a firearm contrary to order, Section 117.01, Criminal Code.
Barker was the subject of a RCMP wanted release on April 14, 2026.
Also arrested at the scene was Russell Bird, who was located inside a residence on the same property.
Bird was wanted on warrant by Rose Valley RCMP for charges including:
- one count, break and enter, Section 348(1)(b), Criminal Code;
- one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of stolen property, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, theft, Section 334(a), Criminal Code,
- one count, fail to attend court, Section 145(3), Criminal Code; and
- two counts, fail to comply with undertaking, Section 145(4)(b), Criminal Code.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on April 22. The investigation is ongoing.
Background
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) is asking the public to report sightings and information on the whereabouts of 35-year-old Matthew Barker.
Barker is wanted on warrant by Nipawin RCMP for charges including careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and fail to comply with a probation order.
Barker is described as:
- Height: 5 ft 11 in
- Weight: 250 lbs
- Eye colour: brown
- Hair colour and style: brown
- Other descriptors: numerous tattoos on his forearms and a large tattoo on his neck
Barker is known to travel to the following areas:
- Nipawin, SK
- Carrot River, SK
- Winnipeg, MB
Prince Albert WEST continue to investigate.
